At almost 50, singer Tim McGraw is in the best shape of his life and looks in better shape than man half his age. Follow his workout and diet and you could be too!
Tim McGraw doesn’t exercise like normal folk. There is no gentle jogging on a treadmill or biceps curls for this famous country singer. Instead, McGraw is a huge fan of CrossFit – a constantly varying high intensity exercise system that has been gaining an unprecedented amount of interest lately.
Principles of the Tim McGraw Workout Routine
With CrossFit, you never know what workout you are going to be doing from one day to the next. Every day, CrossFit HQ issues a WOD – short for workout of the day – which followers can then complete at home or at one of the many CrossFit gyms – called boxes – that are springing up in every city and every town.
CrossFit is popular with firefighters, law enforcement officers, soldiers and, of course, country singers and for good reason – the workouts are so tough and effective that you cannot help but get stronger, leaner and fitter.
Many of the workouts are against the clock which helps keep exercisers like McGraw motivated as each time a workout if repeated, you must strive to beat your previous time. McGraw recently said about CrossFit “That’s one of my favorite things to do, because I have a short attention span, so I can switch exercises really quickly if I get tired of one.”
There are literally hundreds of approved CrossFit workouts you can choose from but purists religiously do the Workout of the Day. Here are some examples of official CrossFit WODs. Many of the workouts are named after women and several are named after fallen servicemen with whom CrossFit is immensely popular.
Tim Mcgraw CrossFit Workout Routines
|As fast as possible:||5 rounds for time:||Each minute on the minute for 30 minutes:||21-15-9 reps, for time:|
|100 pull-ups||20 Pull-ups||5 Pull-ups||Deadlift 225 lbs|
|100 pushups||30 Push-ups||10 Push-ups||Handstand Push-ups|
|100 pushups||40 Sit-ups||10 Push-ups|
|100 squats||50 Squats|
WODs also involve serious strength training during which McGraw will work up to a maximum weight lift just like a weightlifter and many workouts involve the use of things like climbing ropes, giant tractor tires, sledgehammers, sprinting, gymnastic rings, a variety of kettlebell exercises, running and rowing.
One thing is for sure – CrossFit is never dull. The whole premise behind CrossFit is to make you “fit for anything life throws at you” and the huge variety of short but sharp workouts will do just that.
In addition to his regular CrossFit workouts, McGraw also plays one-on-one basketball with his wife Faith Hill and does weight training using cables and bars to complete his impressive 170-lb physique.
Tim Mcgraw Diet Plan
Like many celebrities, Tim McGraw is a convert to the Paleo diet, also known as the caveman diet. This is a high protein, moderate fat, low carbohydrate that prohibits the consumption of any manmade foods but, instead, allows you to eat all natural foods in abundance.
The Paleo diet is based on a hunter-gatherer diet so McGraw chows down on foods that, if he headed out into the wilds of nature, he would be able to hunt or scavenge for himself. Out go pizza and chips and in go nuts, seeds, meat and vegetables. Even dairy is off the menu.
McGraw’s meat and vegetable diet is naturally low in sugar, keeps his blood glucose levels stable and primes his body for fat burning and muscle building. Looking at recent pictures of McGraw, it’s safe to say he is thriving on this diet. He still enjoys the occasional cheeseburger but this is no longer a staple of his diet but merely a treat.
McGraw, who has also quit drinking back in 2008, makes sure he consumes plenty of water and tea to keep himself well hydrated – vital when you consider how hard he works out.
Unlike many of his contemporaries who have descended into drink, drugs and obscurity, Tim McGrath has reinvented himself despite fast approaching middle age. He has even converted his band to CrossFit and they work out together when they are on tour. CrossFit and the Paleo diet are hardcore but if you want a body like Tim McGrath, this is the workout and diet for you.
